Ten years after first spying each other at a fish and chips shop, this Scottish couple got engaged with a Blue Nile ring in Barbados.

Who: Dave Ross and Emma Rhodes
Where: Barbados
Ring: Marquise Cut Halo Diamond Engagement Ring in Platinum

The Romance

Dave and Emma were 16 and 17 years old when they first spotted in each in the local fish and chips shop, where Emma worked. They were eventually introduced through mutual friends at a party, and hit it off from that moment on. Ten years later, they got engaged in pristinely blue Caribbean waters.

The Proposal

The two were headed off for a holiday trip to Barbados, and Dave had decided to propose on a catamaran, with dinner after at a fancy restaurant. When the day finally came, the weather was uncooperative, so Dave had to change all of his reservations on the sly, without raising any suspicion from Emma.

Fortunately, the weather was perfect the next day and everything went exactly as planned. At sunset, Dave distracted Emma by pointing at a fish over the side of the boat. As she turned around to look, Dave got down on one knee. Emma was shocked and said yes to her “perfect ring.”

The Ring

Dave knew Emma wanted a marquise-cut diamond. After spending some time on Google, he knew that Blue Nile was the best option to get a customized ring with this diamond shape. “The online process was really easy,” Dave explains. “I had a couple of long phone calls and emails with Beth in customer service. She was extremely helpful and told me exactly what I needed to look for with this type of diamond: Width to length ratio is very important, as well as the 4Cs, of course! I feel like a pro after some mentoring from the Blue Nile team, and would recommend them to others.”

“She absolutely loves the ring,” Dave says about Emma, “and has been getting amazing compliments from everyone who sees it, massive thanks to Blue Nile for such a great service and beautiful ring.”
